The Malaysian school curriculum is committed to developing the children holistically intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and physical measurements, as reflected in the National Education Philosophy. Programmes and initiatives to develop non-academic elements are present both during formal course time along with via an assortment of after-school co-curricular activities. For instance, Moral Education or Islamic Education is compulsory for all students through to Form 5. The Ministry also offers a requirement that every pupil participate in at least one uniform unit, 1 club, and 1 sport as a way of cultivating individual talents and interests, as well as building leadership skills. Available data suggests that pupil enrolment in such co-curricular activities is high.
