A fundamental objective of any education system is to make sure that its students are being equipped with the information and skills needed for success. The Malaysian education system, like others all over the world, has emphasised the development of strong content knowledge in subjects including mathematics science, and language. There is, however, raising global recognition that it’s no longer enough to acquire only 3 Rs (Reading, wRiting & aRithmetic) skillls when leaving the school. The emphasis is no longer simply on the importance of knowledge, but also on developing higher-order thinking skills (HOTS).
